Public Art in East Germany explores socialist realist public art in the former GDR, its history, and its legacy in unified Germany today. This site is a project for a graduate-level Digital Public History course at George Mason University.

The content was written and curated by Charlotte Corneliusen, a former longtime resident of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. Updates to this project are ongoing. If you have a photo of or story about public art in any former East German city or town or their public artists, please contribute.
