Title

My God, Help Me to Survive This Deadly Love

Subject

Mein Gott, hilf mir, diese tödliche Liebe zu überleben (My God, Help Me to Survive This Deadly Love) a street art mural by Dmitri Vrubel in 1990 depicting Erich Honecker and Leonid Brezhnev engaging in a fraternal kiss.

Description

Vrubel based this mural depicting Honecker and Brezhnev kissing on a photograph taken by Régis Bossu in East Berlin on October 7, 1979. Part of Berlin's East Side Gallery, it is painted on the East German side of the Berlin Wall as a reclamation of space. The title references Honecker's oppressive regime and East Germans killed at the wall, trying to escape it. It is likely the only public depiction of Honecker in the former GDR.
